With 50 years of experience practicing real estate law and over 30 years as a commercial real estate developer, I’ve had the privilege of seeing the industry from both sides. As an attorney, I spent decades advising developers on structuring deals, navigating zoning laws, and overcoming challenges. That experience gave me a deep understanding of what makes a development successful—knowledge I now apply firsthand as a builder of communities.
As Co-Principal of SG Communities, I work alongside Yoav Gershoni to develop high-quality, community-driven multi-family housing guided by The Sterling Standard—our philosophy of delivering well-designed, investment-smart, and resident-focused communities that stand the test of time. Over the past 12 years, our portfolio has grown to more than 2,000 multi-family units, spanning a diverse mix of multi-family and mixed-use developments across the Midwest and Southwest, including:

In conjunction with a $25 million UPREIT transaction involving the contribution of approximately 500 multi-family units that we had purchased from 1993 to 2015. I was asked to join—and continue to serve on—the Board of Trustees of Dakota REIT since 2015.Dakota REIT has grown from $200 million to over $1 billion in assets.
Beyond development, I am passionate about advancing the commercial real estate industry. In 1990, I founded the Commercial Real Estate (CRE) Summit, which continued what will be our 37th year in 2026. The CRE Summit brings together top CRE professionals to exchange ideas, drive innovation, and shape the future of commercial real estate in Nebraska and Iowa.
While practicing law, I was honored to be inducted into the American College of Real Estate Lawyers (ACREL) and recognized by Chambers & Partners and Best Lawyers in America for my work in real estate law and development.
I earned an L.L.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law, a Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Creighton University School of Law, and a B.S.B.A. from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. I also served as an Adjunct Professor of Law, teaching real estate development and finance at Creighton University School of Law.
